Principal’s Address
Principal’s Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we move into the middle of the third term, it's a real pleasure to reflect on the many achievements and milestones our students and staff have reached. A highlight must be the success of our Year 9 student Noah Kuswadiyanto. He has just returned from the Karate World Cup in Sydney with a gold medal for Boys Kata 14-15 years! What an achievement!
We were delighted to host a group of Japanese students in Week 3 who visited our school as part of their trip to Western Australia. This offered our students a fantastic opportunity to share cultures and make some new friends. The students spent time in our classrooms with their class buddies, broadening the horizons of all involved. A big thankyou must be extended to Mr Maynard who organised this visit, and to all the staff and students who made our visitors feel so welcome.
It has been an especially exciting time as we embark on writing our new business plan. A dedicated group of staff members are currently working together to set key targets for our school for the next 5 years. These are based around three key priorities of Engagement, Wellbeing and Achievement. This collaborative effort is aimed at shaping the future of our school, ensuring that our vision is shared and supported by the entire community. We warmly invite you to share your ideas and visions for the school’s future via email, phone, or in person. Your input is invaluable to us as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for our students.
Finally, you will have received information about Compass, the new software that we are using to record absences and other important data. This forms part of the Department of Education’s upgrade to the way schools manage data. Known as The Kaartdijin Solution, it will provide a modern and secure data management environment. Thanks for your support as we learn to navigate this new system together. We will continue to provide information around how to use this new system as the year progresses.
It is clear that our school community continues to thrive, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and parents.
Thank you for your continued support.

Attendance
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
At Newton Moore Senior High School, we recognise that attending school regularly and on time has a positive impact on learning, and therefore the best life opportunities for our students.
Excellent attendance and punctuality are the key for our student’s success. Therefore, we must ensure that attendance and punctuality are the highest they possibly can be to prepare our students for their future adult life.
We encourage excellent attendance and punctuality for all students. Absences affect learning outcomes whatever the reasons for missed days.
Currently, 50% of our students are above the required 85% attendance for Term 3, and 25% of our students have 100% attendance. These students will be recognised at the end of term with a reward lunch.
It is also worth noting that 50% of students have 85% and above attendance for the year so far.
Well on their way to success.

Mock Interviews
The VET team have been fortunate to have had industry guests attend our school and assist with year 12 mock interviews for the past three weeks. Our students have had ten minutes each to experience a panel style interview, answering questions and receiving constructive feedback.
These students should be proud of themselves and their efforts. The feedback from our guests has been very positive, some comments include:
‘Good, confident answers’
‘Polite, friendly demeanour’
‘Well presented’
‘Great self-awareness’
Thanks goes out to our workplace learning teachers for their support and encouragement - Zoe Quartermaine and Deb Hall.
We also want to thank Idris from MEGT, Lisa from IntoWork, Fiona from Busy at Work, and Georgia, Morgan and Drew from ATC.
HASS
Japanese Students Visit our School.
During weeks 3 and 4 of term 3, Newton Moore SHS was delighted to receive 19 exchange students from Japan. During their stay in the Southwest, the Japanese exchange students spent five days taking part in regular classes and activities at our school. They were each paired with a Newton Moore 'study buddy' whom they shadowed throughout the day.
Initial nervousness soon gave way to lasting friendships as our local students quickly warmed to the visitors. Both local staff and students reported that it was an absolute pleasure having the exchange students in regular classes and the exchange students said they were impressed by our students' hospitality. Our 'buddies' and the Japanese exchange students enjoyed an extravagant farewell ceremony on their final day at NMSHS which included gifts for the Japanese exchange students, certificates of recognition for the buddies, a didgeridoo performance, and a traditional Japanese dance. It's safe to say that tears were shed and many of our students have made lifelong friends from across the world.

Careers News
The Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) aims to inspire secondary school students to become 'career curious' about further study opportunities and potential careers. As part of the Year 9 Taste Tester funding, 44 of our students had the opportunity to attend the Perth SkillsWest Careers Employment Expo on Thursday 25th July. It is Western Australia’s largest Careers & Employment event and was held at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre. The Expo hosted over 160 organisations and employers with career opportunities. It provided students the opportunity to engage in career conversations, talk with key organisations at the CTF Construction Hub and gain free career advice. Students had opportunities to engage and discover jobs of the future, view the Australian Defence Force display and many more.
Thank you to Ms Audino and Miss Edwards for attending.

Clontarf Legend of the Month - Michael Winder
Mick has grown into being a fantastic leader in our academy this year and has begun Term 3 very well. His school attendance is above 90%, he is attending morning trainings and has recently secured a part time job with K-Mart. We are looking forward to helping Mick transition into the workforce after he completes Year 12. A great role model for our fellas!
Clontarf
Now that Term 3 is up and running we are seeing great turn outs at our weekly events of morning training, after school sport and academy lunches.
Our Year 11/12 boys attended the annual Clontarf Southern Region Employment Camp during Week 4. The key aspect of this camp was the Employment Forum being held in Bunbury where they were exposed to speed dating and one on one interviews with over 20 of Clontarf’s biggest and best partners. These partners all have great employment opportunities for our boys through apprenticeships, traineeships, and casual work. Some great outcomes have already come from this forum, and we are looking forward to assisting our Year 12 boys transition into the workforce shortly.
Our younger year groups are working hard to earn a spot on our IT Discovery Camp in Week 6 and our Year 8/9 Camp to Geraldton in Week 8. These camps are a great incentive for the boys to have high attendance, demonstrate Clontarf like behaviours and be involved in our weekly activities.
We are also excited to be hosting a Football Match as part of the schools NAIDOC celebrations on Wednesday 11 September at 3.30pm. The game is for our boys, families, school staff and Clontarf partners so all are welcome to participate and enjoy a BBQ after the match.
Engagement Day for Year 7’s
The Clontarf Academy recently held an engagement day for our Year 7 boys. The day was designed to inspire them to have a positive Term 3. Activities included a tour of Ngilgi Cave, Mini Golf, Ice Cream at Simmo’s and goal setting for the Term.
The boys had a great time and are ready to dominate the rest of the Term!
